A dive into what I’m looking to learn from taking ozempic while already below 10% body fat and having been into fitness for 3 1/2 years already.
My reason behind it all
In the last year the popularity of Ozempic has absolutely exploded. Everyone and their mom are talking about it. South Park even made a whole movie about it. So naturally as someone who works in fitness when anything ground breaking hits the market that has to do with weight loss or muscle building or really anything to do with the body I am intrigued. And especially with this one. It’s the so called “Miracle Weight Loss Drug”. However when I see anything that promises to work miracles I’m immediately skeptical because 99% of them are lies. The only things that actually work miracles as far as changing the composition of your body are exercise, good nutrition, and of course steroids. But I’m not here to endorse all of that I’m here to talk about Ozempic right.
The truth is I see this drug becoming common in the future for really anyone who decides they want to lose a little weight. It is only going to get cheaper and more accessible as time goes on. And in a recent poll 47% of Americans said they would like to be on it and 1 out of 8 people have already tried at least one kind of GLP-1 agonist, which is the class of peptide that Ozempic falls into. I think that it is going to disrupt the fitness space in ways we have never seen before. However there are some huge drawbacks. The loss of muscle is one of the main side effects from taking it which doesn’t seem like a big deal to most people because that still contributes to their weight on the scale going down. But what I know as a fitness professional is that losing muscle also means that you are going to lower your metabolism, and a lower metabolism means that it is only going to get harder and harder to continue losing weight. This leads to a cycle of lowering the calories more and more until you’re eating less than a 7 year old girl.
The way that these drugs work is simply by decreasing your appetite so much that you are able to eat that diet of a 7 year old girl and not really care much because you aren’t hungry. This is obviously going to lead to a reduction in weight, but the average consumer doesn’t realize what they are getting themselves into, and doctors aren’t educating people on it either. What they are getting into is huge losses of muscle, damaged metabolism, nutrient deficiencies, dehydration, and many more negative side effects.
I want to help educate the public on how to use these peptides to lose weight in a sustainable way so that you can actually keep it off when the time comes to go off of them. However I feel that I can’t properly guide people if I haven’t gone through it myself so I know exactly what people are experiencing. So that is my why.
How I’m going to educate people to use this drug properly
Through my experiment on myself I want to use my knowledge of fitness already and combine it with the first hand experience on Ozempic to figure out the best ways to manage the side effects, get leaner, and maintain a healthy life style without ruining my metabolism and withering away into a skeleton.
With blog post like this and documenting my journey on various social media platforms hopefully I can help people realize the importance of pairing things like strength training and maintaining a high protein diet with the use of these peptides.
